John McDermot came to Barrie in 1990, and has practiced almost exclusively in the
family law area since that time. John is an accredited Family Mediator through the Ontario Association of Family Mediation and a certified Arbitrator. He frequently acts as a mediator or arbitrator in the resolution of family disputes.
In 1994, along with a number of other lawyers and social workers, he established the
Mediation Centre of Simcoe County. He has conducted numerous family law
mediations through the Mediation Centre since that time. John is presently the president of the Mediation Centre and a member of the Board of the Centre. In 2006 and 2007, John completed formal training in Comprehensive and Family Arbitration. John has conducted both comprehensive family mediation/arbitrations and civil arbitrations since 1997.
John is the president of the Simcoe County Family Law Lawyers' Association and is on the executive of the Simcoe County Lawyer's Association. He also serves on the Family Court Community Liason Committee.
